Chair cars are number starting from number 1 at the B end or Non-vestibule end, therefore, all trains that required advanced chair car reservations shall have the vestibules to the rear.

 

Sleeping cars to be handled in the same way, except Sleeping cars shall have the vestibules to the front in accordance to Passenger Department requirements to match numbered sleeping quarters.

**Hi Level Chair Cars 726-736 were built with convertible ends to allow operation as a full Hi Level car or a Step Down.

Shop forces had to convert these cars to step downs during the fall winter season for use on the Texas Chief.  6 cars were required.  Initially, cars 726 to 730 and 733 were converted to Step Downs during the 1968-69 season, however, other cars could be converted as needed.  These cars were converted back to 72 seat Hi Level cars in the Summer Season for use on trains 1 and 2, San Francisco Chief, and trains 17-18 El Capitan.  During the 1969-1970 and 1970-71 season, other numbers were converted to Step Down cars 726. 727, 729, 732, 733 and 735.

Shop forces had to convert these cars to step downs during the fall winter season for use on the Texas Chief.  6 cars were required.  Initially, cars 726 to 730 and 733 were converted to Step Downs during the 1968-69 season, however, other cars could be converted as needed.  These cars were converted back to 72 seat Hi Level cars in the Summer Season for use on trains 1 and 2, San Francisco Chief, and trains 17-18 El Capitan.  During the 1969-1970 and 1970-71 season, other numbers were converted to Step Down cars 726. 727, 729, 732, 733 and 735.
